Care for the sound and your life around it
Tinnitus and sound sensitivity treatment, wherever you are in Australia
-
Blue Mountains Tinnitus Clinic was founded on a simple belief: no one should have to live with tinnitus distress alone, or without a clear path forward.
The clinic is owned and led by Gabrielle Bray, an accredited Clinical Audiologist and Counsellor registered with Audiology Australia and the Australian Counselling Association. With over 25 years of clinical experience, Gabrielle combines the science of hearing with the care of counselling to support patients with tinnitus using structured assessment and evidence-based treatment plans.
Clinic mission: the Blue Mountains Tinnitus Clinic provides personalised, evidence-based programs that go beyond your diagnosis, helping your brain let go of tinnitus so you can reconnect with the life you love.
-
We use a structured yet personalised process grounded in current research, combining audiological science with evidence-based counselling to support your brain's natural ability to become less aware of the tinnitus sound over time: a process known as habituation.
Depending on your needs, treatment draws on:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for tinnitus (CBT) easing the distress, worry, and unhelpful patterns that keep tinnitus in focus
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) our overarching framework, helping you loosen the struggle with the sound and connect with what matters in your life
Sound therapy to help you adapt to the tinnitus and notice it less.
All of this is held within the clinic’s framework: Notice → Choose → Live: helping your brain to become more used to tinnitus and disengage from it better, allowing the sound to sit in the background.
-
The clinic supports adults living with tinnitus at any stage, whether the sound is new and unsettling, or long-standing and wearing. People come to us experiencing:
Recent-onset tinnitus and the anxiety that often comes with it
Long-term tinnitus that has become distressing or intrusive
Sound sensitivity (hyperacusis) alongside tinnitus
Difficulty sleeping, concentrating, or relaxing because of the sound
Difficutlies with mood changes
A referral is not required, although we always work alongside your GP, ENT, or hearing aid audiologist to provide comprehensive treatment.
Your next steps for tinnitus support
The Blue Mountains Tinnitus Clinic provides a structured assessment and treatment pathway for tinnitus and/or sound sensitivity (hyperacusis).
Assessment and treatment plans help your brain to react to tinnitus with less alarm through habituation, so you notice it less, and focus on the thinngs you enjoy.
We use evidence-based Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) for tinnitus, sound therapy including Neuromonics, and treatments based in the stepped-care model to suit all patients.
When tinnitus first becomes part of your life, most people do the sensible thing and look for answers. You see your GP, maybe an Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) specialist, perhaps an audiologist. Your hearing gets checked and serious medical causes are ruled out, which is an essential step.
What comes next is often the harder part, which is finding structured help for the tinnitus itself, and the impact it’s having on your life.
Treatment for tinnitus sits outside the important initial appointments required. When the medical and audiological assessments are complete, the next step is a clear plan for managing the sound of tinnitus and how it’s affecting your sleep, concentration and daily life.
The Blue mountains Tinnitus Clinic provides structured assessment, sound therapy, and treatment plans for tinnitus so you can live well alongside the tinnitus, as your brain learns to react to it with less alarm.
The Clinic offers an integrated clinical assessment and treatment pathway for patients with newly emerged or long-standing tinnitus combining assessment, referrals, and access to evidence-based tinnitus education and cognitive behavioural therapy for tinnitus (CBT). This is neuro-audiological counselling™ combining audiological expertise and counselling treatment plans to not just address the sound, but the brain and nervous system processes that drive the distress.
OUR APPROACH
Clinical depth
Tinnitus is shaped by the auditory system and the brain’s response to it. Neuro-audiological counselling ™ at the Blue Mountains Tinnitus Clinic brings together audiology science and evidence-based therapies to help you live well with tinnitus.
Real change
The brain has a natural capacity to adapt, so it stops treating tinnitus as something to focus on or be bothered by. Treatment supports that process, guided by the Notice-Choose-Live ™ framework within evidence based treatments.
Whole life care
Tinnitus rarely arrives alone. Sleep, stress, hearing, socialising and concentration all matter. Every patient is treated with respect and care, with individualised treatment and clear communication between the clinic and treating doctors
Clinic vision and mission
Comprehensive coordinated care
The Blue Mountains Tinnitus Clinic is committed to compassionate, thorough care, with a strong focus on working closely with other health professionals so your tinnitus is looked at as part of the bigger health picture.
Where further assessment or medical input is needed, we work collaboratively with GPs, Ear Nose and Throat specialists (ENTs), audiology services providing hearing tests and hearing aids, and other treating specialists such as neurologists and allied health. Not all patients will require referral as this depends on your tinnitus assessment results. With your consent, report of results and your treatment plan will be sent to your referring doctor.
Every new patient begins with an initial Tinnitus assessment
After the assessment, if you’d like to begin treatment, this is matched to how tinnitus is affecting you and your health goals.
Not everyone needs a full treatment plan. For some patients, the the assessment settles things considerably. For others, a structured treatment plan is helpful and recommended. Your clinician talks you through what’s recommended at your follow-up call.
See out assessment page for more detail on what’s included in your thorough assessment
Assessment fee: $400 ($350 for pension holders, seniors card holders, and students)
